Start Up Process
POOLEE PROGRAM:
At Southeast County Young Marines, we use a Poolee Program for youth who join between recruit classes. As a poolee, a young person has turned in their paperwork and been accepted, but is waiting for the next official Recruit Class to start. During this time they can attend certain meetings, meet the staff and other youth, begin learning basic knowledge (ranks, facing movements, Young Marines history, DDR), and start working on physical fitness so that when Recruit Training begins, they already know faces, routines, and expectations.
RECRUIT TRAINING:
The Recruit Class is the nationally mandated training cycle that every new Young Marine must complete before earning the title of Young Marine. It is usually spread over several drills and covers close order drill, general knowledge, field skills, navigation, drug‑resistance education, public speaking, leadership, U.S. history and citizenship, and fitness/first aid. Recruits are expected to attend all scheduled recruit drills, work as a team, and demonstrate what they have learned. At the end, they participate in a graduation ceremony where they receive their first rank, uniform items, and officially join the Southeast County Young Marines as full Young Marines.
